Cancer Pollutants from Sterigenics Facility
An industrial plant, operated by Sterigenics, released cancer-causing toxic emissions into Willowbrook and surrounding communities for decades, putting nearby residents, workers, and students at serious risk of cancer.
This facility, now shut down, was located at 7775 Quincy Street in Willowbrook.
Toxic Polluting
This plant used ethylene oxide (EtO), a known human carcinogen, to treat medical equipment. In the process, toxic EtO was released into the surrounding areas, exposing people as far as two miles away.
The facility was identified by the EPA as a toxic EtO polluter.
Sterigenics operated in Willowbrook from 1984 to 2019, exposing tens of thousands of people in the area to an increased risk of cancer.
